Motorcycle manufacturing industry
The motorcycle manufacturing industry represents a specific segment of the transport equipment sector, with a relatively modest tradition in Romania compared to other European countries. However, in recent years there has been an increased interest in local motorcycle production, especially in the electric and off-road segments. Although the domestic market is dominated by imports, there are a few local manufacturers who have managed to develop their own models, leveraging local engineering and design capabilities.
From a macroeconomic perspective, this subdivision contributes to diversifying the industrial base and creating skilled jobs, particularly in welding, precision mechanics, and assembly. Major challenges for entrepreneurs in this field include high certification and homologation costs, competition from high-volume Asian manufacturers, and fluctuations in raw material prices. Furthermore, access to financing for investments in modern production lines remains a significant barrier. However, the trend towards sustainable urban mobility and the growing demand for electric motorcycles opens up new opportunities for those innovating in this sector.
