Although in recent decades the sector has faced restructuring and Asian competition, it remains vital for gas, water and oil infrastructure, metal constructions and machinery production. At the macroeconomic level, this division contributes to the trade balance through exports of finished or semi-finished products, but it is sensitive to fluctuations in raw material prices and demand from the construction and energy industries. Entrepreneurs operating here face challenges such as the need to constantly invest in modern production lines to remain competitive against quality standards imposed by the European market. Product certification according to EN standards (e.g., EN 10255, EN 10219) is often mandatory, and the costs of raw materials (steel) and energy represent a major share. In addition, environmental and recycling requirements are becoming stricter, forcing manufacturers to adapt their processes. Nevertheless, technological adaptability and constant demand from transport networks and construction create opportunities for companies that manage to differentiate through quality and reliable delivery times. In conclusion, CAEN Division 24 is not just a metallurgical niche but a pillar of Romanian heavy industry, with growth potential in contexts of reindustrialization and major infrastructure investments.
